June catch up...

Tuesday, 23th June, 2009
It's been far too long since we spoke hasn't it. Well I've not forgotten about anyone. I had a little rest after the album party, some relaxation, catch up on Hollyoaks, that sort of thing. I was a little dismayed I have to say, to discover that Tony and Cindy seem to be getting together, how do these things happen... And what actually happened with Russ? Can anyone let me know? Are we going to be seeing him again?

In more relevant news, the launch party was a stunner. Thank you to everyone who came to The Luminaire on the 6th. Nat Birchall and Matthew Halsall's bands were amazing. I think having Nat start the night with Journey In Satchidananda was perfect and there were plenty of comments about Matthew's version of Ode To The Big Sea. Killer.

We came on about 11pm, to a seriosuly busy and buzzing little room, I was trying to work out with Andy whether we would have drinks confiscated mid show if we took a glass on with us as there were signs saying you weren't allowed. We risked it though, and seemed to get away with it. W00T! And on that point, thank you to The Luminaire which is one of my favourite places I've ever played, everyone there is lovely! And so helpful.

This was the set list:

  • The Low Road
  • People We Spoke To
  • Springtime
  • Mistaken
  • Warm Sound
  • I Have Come To You
  • Out of My Hands
  • Certainly
  • I Was Love

Afterwards I got busy in the shop getting rid of a few CDs and our specially made stuffed red devils (big, big thank you to my girlfriend Kat and her amazing friends Ellie, Rob and Katie for helping make those in time for the gig) and drinking some lovely Mount Gay Rum.

I still need to pick up the live recording and see if there is anything good on there which I can share with you. As soon as I know I'll let you know, so sign up to the mailing list on the right to get sent a few free tracks. If you picked up one or both of the free mix CDs on the night you can drop me an e-mail and I'll send you the track list. Just e-mail adam@scrimshire.com.

What else? I've just recently done an interview with the Part Time Heroes for their podcast, chatting about the album, writing it, recording it, all that business. You can hear it here: http://www.parttimeheroes.co.uk/. I've been confirmed to play at Disco 3000 in Croatia on the site of the now infamous Garden and Electric Elephant festivals. That's the first weekend of September and if you fancy it you can book your tickets here: http://www.disco3k.com/DF/, and please tell them you are with Wah Wah when you book tickets.

Also! Shingaling is back!

We've got a new spot at Corbet Place just off Brick Lane and we're starting the first night with an extraordinary guest in the shape of mr Jake Holloway! It'll be a stunner I promise!

last but not least, there are a whole bunch of podcasts lined up. I myself have got so much new booty to play you that I'm itching to do a new podcast and will get one done this weekend. However in the meantime I have two guest mixes coming. Mr Sid Ford has just supplied me with a little CD full of gems that I will get up in the next few days, he tells me this one is a little more on the soulful side. I can't wait.

Following that the infamous, the notorious, the hilarious, the monstrous Blackclassical will be dropping a guest mix right here. Blackclassical and I started talking a few months back - about jazz - via the medium of twitter and since then I have discovered he is one of the deepest diggers and most astounding collectors of music around. His knowledge is astounding, so do not miss this mix, which he assures me will be seriously OUT THERE. I'll get that up next month!

Sinnerman is a little something I put together about a year and a half ago. An instrumental piece filled with strings and melodian, very laid back and melancholy - and now available for free download! This never made the album and I have lost the original samples for the drums and other parts. So this MP3 is all I have. I thought I would share it.

If you like the track and want more join the mailing list --->
and I'll send more stuff through soon.

And if you REALLY like it - don't forget that the album is out this week, please grab a copy from your favourite place. Or here.

Along came the Devil one night...

Tuesday, 26th May, 2009
Yesterday was the official album release day. I celebrated with cider and lobster down on the Isle of Wight before running back up to London to play a live session on Dom Servini's Colourful Radio show.

Stac and Rob both joined me to sing a little bit and Kat was sewing devils live in the studio! Amazing scenes. If you fancy listening again, check out Dom's page at Colourful Radio. And please don't forget to go and grab your copy of the album.

So this is it, finally it is out. No more fiddling. If you want to let me know what you think please drop me an e-mail.

Along came the album launch...

Wednesday, 13th May, 2009
So much is happening at the moment as I'm now in the last few weeks before the album comes out. I've always enjoyed the promotion period leading up to records coming out. Its a lot to do with getting feedback from people about the music which I always enjoy - positive or negative. As someone who produces on my own in my little basement its good to get input from fresh ears and if its good stuff, well it's double the fun!

With the album it's a much bigger, more exciting experience. Not least because of the amount of work that has gone in to getting it to this stage but the amount of time - in some ways it's been 2 maybe 3 years in the making, in other ways it's been 15 years of learning to get here. But it's a really good feeling to be finally sharing the music with people.

So now its this promotion thing, I'm doing no end of mixes for people - there'll be a new podcast up in the next 7 days (if you haven't yet, check the podcast page, particularly for the recent Sid Ford guest mix). We've been thinking about little things for the album launch too. This has now ended up with my girlfriend and her friend Ellie making a bunch of stuffed red devils that will be hidden around the venue on the night of the album launch, find one and swap it for a free album! So there is red felt, wadding and beads in my house at the moment - although I have to admit to watching Cloverield on Sunday with Andy while the lady was sewing away at devil horns! How helpful am I? Well I'm at least trying to find out how to come up with a bunch of 20cm pitch forks for the little buggers.

So, if you are interested in coming along to celebrate the album, it's on the 6th June at The Luminaire in Kilburn. You can buy advance tickets from We Got Tickets (£6) to save yourself a few pounds or pay on the door (£8). We've got support on the night from Matthew Halsall and Nat Birchall as well as Dom and Simon playing records all night.

You can get a little more info on facebook and please become a fan there or join the mailing list (on the right) to make sure you find out about guestlist spots and stuff.

Plus you can check out album previews on the music page on this site. So far it's getting some amazing support and plays all over the place (just listened to Eddy Ramich play Warm Sound on Radio101 in Zagreb, sounded lush). I'll post info about the reactions and the album in the releases section before the end of the week - in the meantime you can see it here... www.wahwah45s.com

Speak soon!

Life begins...

Wednesday, 6th May, 2009
Tonight I'm at Life, 2-4 Old Street guesting at the Goin' Downstairs night - Mr Peterson's new weekly residency. Also playing some records are the magical Part Time Heroes and my boss Mr Servini.

On Friday I'll be joining the lovely chaps at Bright Lights, Big City to play some jazz, latin, funk and afrobeat from 10 til midnight. Night starts at 6pm and is free to get in. Come to Yard at 140 Tabernacle Road - it's about 5 mins from Old Street Station. The promoters are also behind the amazing and very important Lake of Stars festival in Malawi, so come along to find out more about what goes on.

Finally, I'll be back at Smiths again on Sunday from 4 til 8pm.

Final details are coming together for the album launch party and I will finally post details for that up here in the next couple of days.

Easter recovery continues...

Friday, 17th April, 2009
There's a new mix in the podcast page - a guest mix from Ain't No New Thing vinyl magician Sid Ford. If ever there were a mix to start the weekend off this is it! Grab it today!

The band had a stunning gig down at the ginglik last Friday, special stuff, thank to everyone who made it along. I'm also now doing a regular Sunday session 4-8 at Smiths of Smithfields - pop in for cosmic soul, sunday funk and laid-back brazilian beats.

The new Wah Wah Hits and Exclusive Bits compilation is out and it features two tracks from my studio. An exclusive pre-album release preview of Springtime featuring Claire Laurent opens up the comp and later on in you can hear my remix of the Part Time Heroes ' Sun Will Shine feat Bridgette Amofah ! Don't miss that.

And last but not least... Sid and I will be celebrating one year of DJing together with a 60 years of the 7" special at Filthys on the 24th April . Be there.

Soulbuggin'

Thursday, 19th March, 2009
Next Friday I'm heading up to Nottingham with Sid to play Soulbuggin' at Moog with Beane, Mark A and Wrighty. As they always like to do, they have asked me to provide a little warm up mix to get people ready. So here it is, plenty of upbeat, summery vibes. Some afrofunk, brit funk, soul and disco. get stuck in. And check out the event on this site or on facebook.

Springtime

Tuesday, 17th March, 2009
Day two of the spring heatwave in London. People are actually smiling! It's a shocker. In celebration of the high spirits here is a thoroughly summery mix from April 07. I think you will like... Splendidly Blended podcast 3 - April 07

Basement boogie

Thursday, 12th March, 2009
Lots of new updates on the site! There'll be some photos to follow tomorrow but I need to sort out the software (new computer, need to set everything up again and it took me forever last time!).

Our first gig at the Vibe Bar last month was amazing, the band is sounding fine, especially after so long away. Everything seemed pretty tight and the audience were the loveliest yet! More gigs to follow in the next few months including an album launch party.

But there are loads of new DJ dates on the events page too and more importantly there is a new podcast up.

This is, I realise now, a collection of tracks that I was listening to during the finishing of the album. So there's plenty of jazz in this one, plus some beautiful guitar bits, something to remember the incredible John Martyn, some new soulful sounds, the amazing Dorian Concept and an amazing José James re-work from the massively talented Emanative. Enjoy.

Along came the mastering one night...

Wednesday, 11th February, 2009
The album is complete. The tracks all just got mastered last night at Hospital Records. From a music point of view it's all done. So I guess the idea now is simply to tell as many people as possible about it. So if you want to help - tell someone you know.

It's been a lengthy journey to this point, but far too much of the work has been crammed into the last 9 weeks. At least one of these tracks dates back 6 years. Some of them are much younger. But if anything this means it's time to start again from scratch which is a feeling I haven't had to face in a long, long time.

But in the meantime the first band rehearsal is tonight. I'll tell you all about it. Please keep your fingers crossed for me.

Certainly

Tuesday, 27th January, 2009
Yes it's out this week, yes you can buy it, yes of course I would love it if you bought a copy...

Here you go: Vinyl, or download?

New music

Friday, 16th January, 2009
Lots of new tracks on the music page including the new single Certainly (out on the 26th can I just repeat that again) and a few tracks from the album as it is at the moment. Get stuck in and let me know what you think.

Off to Roll Call at Three Blind Mice in Shoreditch and then on to see Jamie Finlay DJ at the Big Chill Bar tonight.

A new morning

Sunday, 11th January, 2009
The last month and a half has been one of the busiest times I remember. I am now in the final stages of finishing the album. There are final tweaks to happen to the mixes, one or two little bits of vocal work to tighten up and I am now waiting on the product of a string quartet session that will be taking place somewhere near shefield in the next week. That is one of the most exciting developments to have come out of the last 4 days.

The third single Certainly is out in just a couple of weeks. Early feedback has been good, so go and grab a copy! Available on 7" and digital download from the usual places.

And while that all carries on the band will be picking up their instruments and loosening up their vocal chords again ready for our first gig in over a year. So put February 22nd in your diary because we will be live at the Vibe Bar on Brick Lane. Come and have a listen - see how rusty we may or may not be.

Christmas countdown

Thursday, 27th November, 2008
End of November. Tomorrow night we're back at Filthy's making a proper mess of things. This weekend keep your eyes open for a Lake of Stars party in Liverpool and my new podcast - which is the mix I did for Si Harrison back in the summertime.

I'll be posting up some info about forthcoming gigs with the Scrimshire band shortly, as plans are underway to get that monstrosity together again. More soon.

A few of my favourite things

Monday, 10th November, 2008
So much has happened since I last posted on here. But lets not take the 'news' title of the page seriously, you know where to go for decent comment about that. Personally - I've been to Malawi for my first time at the Lake of Stars festival. It is an incredible experience and one I wasn't really prepared for, I only hope they'll have me back next year so I can spend some more time out there. There is so much more of the country to see than what I crammed in during the 10 days we were there.

Either way there were brilliant gigs at the festival and also at the Gecko Lounge which we visited afterwards. Hello to everyone I met and that I shared a drink and a chat with. I really look forward to next year.

I've been to a wicked little Boogaloo session in Nottingham with the brilliant Faze Action - amazing DJ, lovely chap. I managed to facilitate a chocolate, pork scratching, scampy fry and crisp lucky dip "You have to dig deep for a chocolate treat". What a wonder it was to see people elbow deep in pork scratchings looking for a teacake.

Talc did a jazz session at Favourite Things and I'm off there again in the tipping rain wailing wind to see DJ Format spin some jazz tonight.

There is also a new podcast on this site which is dedicated entirely to the use of strings and orchestras in soul and jazz and dance music. Please have a listen, I'll be doing a couple more of these next year.

Oh yeah and I turned 30 with parties galore, lots of Djing and dancing. It was good.
