New podcast
Thursday, 28th August, 2008
I was going to do you a little disco mix but I'm not very well right
now and a bouncy disco mix up is the last thing on my mind - so instead
you get a very mellow affair.
But I think you'll like it, well I hope so.
Don't forget that Shingaling is back on the 5th September at Barrio North, Stevie is at the o2 in a week and if that wasn't enough I'm 30 in September! To celebrate that I'll be at Cargo for the Part Time Heroes album launch, and the DJing at Filthy's on Friday 26th with Sid Ford as well as my little Bro and his wife (exclusive visit down from Nottinghamshire)! It's going to be a proper Scrimshire family affair. We're also being joined once more by the fantastic Picko-D - all the way down from Manchester. Northern Invasion.
Tuesday tales part 2
Tuesday, 12th August, 2008
I've ordered new needles and they're on their way to me - all be it after some delay. This means a new podcast will be coming soon. In fact I have a couple lined up. Number one will be something a little different. Rob Hynd - esteemed vocalist with the Scrimshire band - has sent me through a mix of tracks that were an influence to him while growing up and getting into music/becoming a singer. So while some of it may be a little different to the usual fare, and that's no bad thing, it should at the very least be a little insight to where he comes from.
Next up will be a mix of new bits and pieces I have picked up recently, some WahWah bits too. That mix will come along shortly, providing we survive Rob's stag this weekend.
Thanks to everyone who came along to Version Excursion last Friday to see me and Sid guesting, playing our favourite cover versions. I'll pop a track list up shortly. Thanks to Richio Suzuki and Andy Bird, a quality night. We had a proper little boogie.
Don't forget the next Ain't No New Thing is coming up on August 29th, shortly followed by SHINGALING on the 5th September. Don't miss them.
Tuesday tales
Tuesday, 5th August, 2008
I was just listening to Simon Harrison's Basic Soul show from two weeks ago and was knocked backwards by the Jazzanova remix of Atjazz's Parallels! Oh my. But a bit of a wait until we see it on Vinyl apparently. Worth the wait I think. Besides... it's nearly Christmas. If you haven't listened to Simon's show or podcast, you should. It's consistently brilliant and one of the best weeklies around.
More current is the forthcoming release of the Part-time Heroes album Meanwhile. WahWah allegiances aside, It sounds amazing to my ears. Really solid tracks throughout with amazing performances from all the vocalists on the album. Personally I'm most in love with the extended version of Realise, closely followed by the incredible Bridgette Amofah on Sun Will Shine.
So, Shingaling was amazing last Friday, thank you to everyone who came along. Dom Servini, as ever, totally smashed it. Sid Ford, a new Islington legend!? There was plenty of dancing, a little bit of drinking and lots of friends in the place. Next one is Friday 5th September and will feature special guest Johnny Reckless (Cybersoul Music).
SHINGALING!
Wednesday, 30th July, 2008
This Friday we have the launch of new night SHINGALING. Myself and Sid Ford will be gracing the decks at yet another Islington venue (the odd takeover continues - in fact, we'll be guesting at Version Excursion on the Essex Road in a couple of weeks too).
After getting back from the incredible Garden Festival in Croatia things have been busy with preparation for this, recording a guest mix for Simon Harrison's Basic Soul Radio show, continuing work on the album, preparation for the Crouch End Kitchen Festival(?!), not to mention a certain bass player's wedding.
All I need now is the delivery of some new needles and there will also be a new podcast up here, featuring all sorts of new WahWah bits, hopefully some album exclusives and a few pounds of soul.
In the meantime, don't miss Shingaling, it's 7.00pm til 1.30am and its free to get in.
...Usual things. Ain't no new things...
Tuesday, 24th June, 2008
Ain't no new thing at Filthy's is back this friday. I personally cannot wait. It's the start of a heavy weekend before flying away to the Garden Festival in Croatia for 10 days. It's going to be HOT.
There is also going to be yet another new event for Ain't No New Thing starting in August at the lovely Barrio North in Islington. First night will Be Friday 1st August - so put it in the diary now!
PLUS! I have just confirmed that I will be DJing at the Lake of Stars festival in Malawi in October. This event looks amazing - you have to check it out.

Favourite Things...
Sunday, 15th June, 2008
June is flying by quicker than I can keep up with. A little bit of sun outside today, but I've been mostly in the basement again.
Pieces are finally coming together for the album, I'm getting e-mails from contributors with all their parts and I'm in the process of trying to finish off the second single for this year. More on that very soon.
Tomorrow night I'll be playing a few records at the new Proud Galleries in Camden for Dom's Favourite Things night. As usual the live band will be there jamming and bringing guests up to do their things. But I'll be playing some of my favourite jazz records. Come and join us. More info at www.wahwah45s.com
Catchup
Friday, 6th June, 2008
Last week at Ain't No New Thing was a little quiet but a lot of goodness.
Our veryu good friend Mr Picko-D came down from Manchester to play
a few records. Later we moved along to Gramaphone for more entertainment
and some more great records from Picko-D and ended up seeing a cricket
rave on Brick Lane at 5am!
I have been busy playing a few gigs with different bands - the BGT and Mark Thompson and friends (including a little set at the Small World Festival in Kent) and tonight myself and Sid Ford will be clashing with the Soul Identity crew at Barrio North. Get there if you can.
Plus, a new podcast should be up in the next few days.

Splendidly Blended podcast 6 - November 07
Thursday, 8th November, 2007
Autumn, ahhh, lovely.
So everyone has started thinking about Christmas, there's a new shop on Putney high street selling bulbs (of the lighting variety) and it has the largest motorised Santa Claus I've seen in some time. I've bizarrely made plans for my Christmas already and I am beginning to panic about whether I got everything done this year that I should have... the answer is no by the way, no I haven't. Not yet anyway...
