I like to swim. It’s been a big part of my family forever – my mum and dad met through swimming…
As an adult my periods of swimming come and go. I get into it, I’ll train for about 8-9 months, then something gives and I’m back out of the game often for many months, before realising I should really be doing it again.
Last summer I was swimming outdoors at the Tooting Bec Lido – one of the most amazing (and largest) pools in Europe. It’s not much shy of 100 metres long. I was getting up to 3k 4-5 mornings a week – it was amazing but again I fell off the horse come September.
4 weeks ago someone at work mentioned the national swimathon and asked who wanted to be involved, so I saw my opportunity and dived straight into it (excuse the pun). Not much time to get back up to speed, but I’m doing okay. Can’t wait actually. It’s a 5k team swim. Should be excellent. Slightly tarnished by the fact that I will be DJing Shoreditch until 1 am and probably not home til 2 or 3am the night before – and we start at 7am (back in Shoreditch).
Still, I’m back in the pool and loving it – already having lofty ideas about swimming the channel next year. Definitely a couple more distance swims this year too. To be honest I prefer longer swims. I hate the first km but number 2 and 3 always feel better – almost fun. Although my dad assures me that four and five are worse than number one. We will see.
All this is to raise money of course for the most important cause The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation – in memory of my friend Simon Goss.

So that’s the big thing this week. Yes I will be DJing Thursday night – in fact it’s the Greg Foat Group album launch party. Not only do we have the band playing live at Favela Chic but myself and Dom will be joined on the decks by the one and only Jazzman Gerald! BIG night. Don’t miss that.
What else… Oh yes, listen to this beauty! Stunning new music from Landslide! I love a bit of Landslide. Beats are always amazing but the tracks are crammed full of atmosphere and he really works expertly with vocals. Always a treat – if you haven’t heard it before you should also listen to his track with Ernesto that came out on Wah Wah a few years back – Solitary.
